On Monday the children will now have turns sharing in a news buzz group. Their group will change for Term 4. They get a chance to share their news and have people ask questions about it, but also do the same for others in their group.
On Wednesday and Friday we will use our 6 hat thinking to think on our topics.
Skills focus for Term 4
Students will learn to...
- When we 'put' on the white hat we think of only the facts about something.
- When we 'put' on the red hat we think about how someone feels.
- When we use yellow hat thinking we think of the good things about the topic.
- When we use black hat thinking we think of what is wrong with something or the bad things about a topic.
- The green hat means we think of new ideas and are creative with out thinking.
- The blue hat helps us think what other thinking we need to do...say if we've only thought of the good things and not any of the things that could go wrong.
We will then choose someone's news to write about, using the people in the group to supply the details (that means they have to listen well!)
On Wednesday and Friday we will focus on responding and listening with a specific focus. This could be related to a news event or topic related idea.
Term 3
Monday: Personal News. All sharing in buzz groups.

How you can help from home
Skills
News is a chance for children to develop their listening and speaking skills. They learn how to politely listen while someone is sharing, how to address a bigger group of people and how to ask a variety of questions and also respond to them.
Ideas
Sometimes children do not know what to talk about or how to stay on one topic. It is useful for parents to discuss with their child what they will share. Some children find it helpful to bring something along to act as a prop to jog their memory. Children might bring items such as photos, pictures, an object relating to the topic etc to talk about. I also like to provide a topic from time to time to help the children make connections from their news to others' news. It can also enrich our curriculum learning if it is related to this.
